The Skoda Kodiaq vRS is a competent car, but it’s not exactly the most exciting thing to write about. After driving a Morgan Super 3 and a 20-year-old BMW 330Ci, the Kodiaq seems like a reliable, but unremarkable, daily driver.
However, on a recent Sunday morning, I decided to take the Kodiaq on a drive from Oxfordshire to Hampshire to visit my parents. The A34 can be frustrating during peak hours, but the A272 was a better choice, despite being slower and busier than it used to be.
A Sunday Drive
The drive was pleasant, with empty roads and a nice pace. The Skoda Kodiaq vRS has a 262bhp engine and 295lb ft of torque, making it enjoyable to drive on empty roads. The dual-clutch gearbox is quick-reacting, and the car has a nice rhythm and flow when driven at a moderate pace.
It has some muted aggression, with big wheels, amplified engine noises, and supportive seats. However, it’s still a seven-seat SUV that weighs over 1800kg, and its primary goal is to remain comfortable as a daily driver.
Balance and Comfort
The Skoda Kodiaq vRS balances comfort and sportiness well, but it’s never as plush or as sporty as it could be. It’s satisfying to find a nice road surface and an empty road to get the car into its semi-relaxed, semi-sporting groove. The adaptive dampers can be set to a firm mode, but they still absorb the worst bumps and retain decent body control.

The steering is well-judged in terms of speed and weighting, and the car feels like a taller, heavier Volkswagen Golf GTI. The Kodiaq vRS is also very useful, with plenty of space for cargo and passengers.
I recently collected some of my childhood things from my parents’ attic and garage, and the Kodiaq was happy to oblige. My dad gave me his wooden tool chest, which still had some tools in it. It was a nice gesture, and the Kodiaq was happy to carry it.
A Practical Car
The Skoda Kodiaq vRS may not be the most exciting car to drive, but it’s a practical and comfortable vehicle. It’s perfect for daily driving, and it’s also capable of handling longer trips with ease. They may not have the same level of excitement as some other cars, but it’s a reliable and trustworthy companion on the road.
As I drove back home, I realized that the Kodiaq vRS is a car that’s always along for the ride, even if it’s not the one providing the stories. It’s a faithful companion, and it’s always ready to carry you and your cargo wherever you need to go.
