Vinfast has entered the growing seven-seat electric MPV segment in India with its new VF MPV 7, a model that arrives as demand for family-friendly electric vehicles gains momentum. The Vietnamese automaker, which has steadily expanded its presence in India over the past few years, positions the vehicle as a practical choice for families seeking a blend of SUV styling and spacious interior. With the seven-seat MPV market still relatively niche, it stands out as one of the first electric offerings in this specific configuration, raising questions about how well it competes against established models like the Clavis EV and XEV 9S.

Styling and Practicality

The VF MPV 7 measures 4,740mm in length, 1,872mm in width, and 1,734mm in height, striking a balance between urban maneuverability and presence. Its design leans more toward SUV aesthetics than traditional MPV styling, with a distinctive V-shaped front grille and 19-inch dark alloy wheels contributing to its rugged appearance. The ground clearance of 180mm further emphasizes its SUV-oriented stance, while the rear design maintains a functional yet modern look with integrated LED taillights.

Storage options are a key focus for the MPV 7. The 90-litre frunk is available as an accessory, but the main boot offers 100 litres of space with all seats in use. Folding the third row unlocks 550 litres, expanding to 1,520 litres when the second row is also folded flat. Despite the slightly high lip at the boot opening, the boxy shape facilitates stacking of items, making it suitable for family needs.

Interior Design and Space

Inside, the vehicle adopts a modern EV-centric layout with a horizontal design theme. The cabin features textured plastic panels with varying finishes, chrome-finish speakers, and a low dashboard sill that enhances the sense of space. Column-mounted gear selector frees up central console area for storage, including a deep armrest and multiple cupholders.

The 2,840mm wheelbase and boxy construction provide ample room across all three rows. Second-row seats are generously padded with five-step recline, offering support and comfort even for six-foot passengers. Legroom and headroom are sufficient, though the absence of center armrests and sunshades may disappoint some. Third-row usability is surprisingly good, with sliding seats and a tumble-fold mechanism that eases entry and exit. Rear passengers benefit from AC vents and dual USB-A/C charging ports, though wireless charging is notably missing.

The vehicle’s single front-driven motor delivers 201PS and 280Nm, enabling a 0-100km/h time under 9 seconds. In testing at Vinfast’s Vietnam facility, the vehicle demonstrated smooth power delivery and manageable traction control intervention. Regenerative braking offers three modes, with the middle setting providing balanced deceleration for city driving. Suspension tuning prioritizes comfort over sportiness, with noticeable body roll in corners and a firm ride typical of EVs equipped with large wheels. Steering lacks centric feedback but remains light and traffic-friendly. Braking performance is consistent and predictable, supporting confident driving across varied conditions.

Expected Features and Safety Equipment

Vinfast plans to equip the MPV 7 with advanced driver-assistance systems, including ADAS and 360-degree cameras. Six airbags will be standard, enhancing occupant protection. However, some features like wireless charging and ventilated seats are not currently included, which could impact its competitiveness in the segment.

Battery and Charging Capabilities

The MPV 7 is equipped with a 60.13kWh battery pack, offering a claimed MIDC range of 500km. Real-world performance is expected to be between 400 to 420km, depending on conditions. Fast charging support up to 80kW allows a 10 to 70 percent charge in approximately 30 minutes, providing flexibility for longer trips.
